2005 Waterway Cleanup Date Set - March 12, 2005

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (January 17, 2005) – The Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s (MIASF) 28th Annual Waterway Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Broward County and the Association is once again anticipating broad-based business and community support and participation.  The Cleanup is an integral part of the Association’s “Our Waterways, Our Future…Our Responsibility” initiative, a campaign that seeks public participation in charting a course for the sustainability of Florida’s most precious resource, its waterways. The Waterway Cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 30 designated cleanup sites from the City of Lighthouse Point in the north, to the City Hallandale in the south, and west to the City of Plantation.

Many local businesses, government agencies and civic organizations including the MIASF, Publix Supermarkets, Broward Beautiful, Broward County Environmental Protection Department, Florida Inland Navigation District, Coral Springs Improvement District, Gill Hotels, Cliff Berry Inc., South Florida Water Management District, Jungle Queen Riverboats, Port Everglades Pilots Association, Broward County Department of Integrated Waste Management, Star brite, FlexSol,  and The Herald-Broward Edition sponsor the Waterway Cleanup, which is the largest annual environmental cleanup effort in Broward.

The MIASF is a not-for-profit trade organization created in 1961 to promote and protect the sound growth of the marine industry in South Florida for the benefit and education of its members, the community and the environment.  The Association has 800 members in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties and is the owner of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
