Other one-design classes have been added to the program allowing many more sailors to be part of this new Miami tradition.
What started out as a three-day event with less than 10 boats in 1927 (the same year that the Miami Yacht Club was established), the BACARDI Cup now attracts more than 200 sailors each year from some 23 countries & the attention of national and international media. The tradition of camaraderie and competition surrounding the Trofeo BACARDI began in Havana, Cuba where it was first sailed as part of the Mid-Winter Championship known as the Cup of Cuba.In 1962, the regatta found a new home in Coconut Grove/Miami at the Coral Reef Yacht Club, where it has continued to sail the Star Class from every year since.

The goal is to attract a minimum of 200/250 competing boats for an average of 500 participants. The prestigious Coral Reef Yacht Club will continue to be the O.A. for the BACARDI Cup. CRYC Race Committee Chair Mark Pincus will also be BMSW Regatta Chairman and will skillfully manage the race organization, judging and other logistical solutions with the support of Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, US Sailing Center, Shake a Leg and Coconut Grove Sailing Club. Regattas will be held on three different courses on Biscayne Bay.
BACARDI Miami Sailing Week is proud to host a new solo exhibition of Cory Silken’s yachting photography, Color of Wind. The exhibit will feature thirty-four of Silken's most recent images. Renowned for his unmistakable, dynamic sepia-tone panoramas, Silken's new images in Color of Wind presented by BACARDI are saturated with the brilliant colors of some of the most breathtaking ports of call; including Grenada, Newport, Palma de Mallorca, Porto Cervo, and St. Barth’s. Stretched five feet wide on “gallerie wrap” canvas, the scope of this exhibition invites the viewer to experience a taste of the high life, including exceptional locations and spectacular sails.
On Sunday March 7th Shake-A-Leg will host a Community Family Day. Participants, family and friends are invited to take part in the event. Miami Sailing Week is supporting the family day by organizing a special opening of the Color of Wind Art Exhibit with photographer Cory Silken. Cory will be talking about photography and sailing and through his work and images will inspire the group. Youngster will then have the chance to go out on the water with SAL fleet for the rest of the afternoon.
