Ladies, Meet Your Match

Match race, that is. Reflecting the ground swell of interest in women’s match racing, the Women’s International Match Racing Association (WIMRA) has teamed up with North U. to offer a series of nine introductory match-racing clinics worldwide. The curriculum for first U.S. clinic, at Manhasset Bay, NY, Aug 31-Sept 2, features top coaches Liz Baylis and Dave Perry conducting two days of training, drills and racing, culminating in a day-long (grade 5) regatta. Full details and registration is available at www.wimra.org and at www.northu.com.

Get Fit, Go Fast, Every Week

Who needs the gym? North Sails has partnered with Harry Legum, an Annapolis-based trainer/coach who has worked with U.S. Naval Academy Sailing teams, America's Cup crews, and Olympic sailors, to bring you Sailing Fitness: Tips & Techniques, where every week you’ll find a new sailing-specific exercise designed to give you a competitive edge. You’ll be toned, and your boatspeed will be buffed, in no time! Check it out at: http://na.northsails.com/SailingFitness.htm

North Sails welcomes Easy Swissa, one of Israel’s top sailor/sailmakers and now the managing director of the just-opened North Sails, Israel loft. Swissa gives two reasons why he went North: “North’s technology is simply superior,” he says, “and the company’s primary focus is the satisfaction of their customers. Israel and the region have experienced a vast growth in yachting, and we’re now in a position to give our customers the world’s best products.” Meanwhile up in North America, on August 20 North Sails, Toronto is moving to a new facility (Tel. 416-259-9644). Visit the new loft—and check out the incredible 3Dr technology (http://na.northsails.com/3dr) that creates North 3Dr rotary-molded sails!

Summer is still cranking: Time to put your job on “chill” and head for Nantucket Race Week (Nantucket, MA), Audi Hamilton Island Race Week (Queensland, Australia), New England PHRF Championships (Marblehead, MA), Rolex Farr 40 Worlds (Copenhagen, Denmark), and many more ways to get out of work.
