MIAMI - The Coast Guard rescued two men from their capsized vessel in Biscayne Bay, Fla., Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a 911 relay distress call from two men who reported they were clinging to a capsized 28-foot sailing vessel, approximately one-half mile off of Black Point Marine inside of Biscayne Bay at 2:10 a.m. Sunday.
A Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Fla., 45-foot Response Boat-Medium (RBM) boatcrew launched to search the nearby area along with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Miami, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and National Park Service crews.
The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew located the capsized vessel at 3:38 a.m. The RBM crew recovered the two men from Homestead, Fla., Alberto Leon-Corado, and Alejandro Suarez, were safely transported to Black Point Marina with no medical concerns.
Sector Miami has issued a hazard-to-navigation warning to mariners which will be broadcast until the disabled sailing vessel has been salvaged.
The Coast Guard reminds boaters to always file a float plan with a friend or family member, have a VHF-FM radio and electronic indicating radio beacon on board, remain vigilant and observe safety and security zones while on the water.
