MIAMI — The Coast Guard will establish a temporary safety zone and a regulated navigation area from 11 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. Jan. 1 in portions of Biscayne Bay to help ensure the safety of South Florida boaters.
The temporary safety zone will include all waters within a 280 yard radius around the barge from which fireworks will be launched, located on Biscayne Bay off of Bay Front Park, Miami, a approximate position 25 46’320”N, 80 10’56”W. Boaters who violate this safety zone will be directed to leave the restricted area and may be subject to a vessel boarding, as well as civil or criminal penalties.
A regulated navigation area within Biscayne Bay will also go into effect at 11 p.m. restricting vessel speeds to 15 knots or less while transiting areas between the Julia Tuttle Causeway south past Deering Key Marina. Boaters who violate this safety zone will be directed to leave the restricted area and may be subject to a vessel boarding, as well as civil or criminal penalties.
