Good news for boaters and members of the marine industry who are wondering about the future of this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. According to the Sun Sentinel, Kaye Pearson and his crew at Show Management, Inc. have rescheduled the show, backing the dates up a week to Nov. 3 -6, 2005.
The new dates will make the show only 4 days long, instead of the original 5 days. Not all exhibitors will be able to appear for the new dates of the show, and several yachts will not exhibit due to damage from the storm. The new dates conflict with the dates of another boat show in the South Florida area, Strictly Sail St. Pete, which traditonally takes place the first weekend in November.
The marine industry has pushed to get the boat show on track as soon as possible, and despite power outages and lack of running water in Ft. Lauderdale, show organizers are "moving heaven and earth" to get the show ready for the new dates. Last year's boat show tallyed over $600 million in sales and revenues to exhibitors, restaurants, hotels and local businesses.
