MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA (USA), February 17, 2011 – Interlux
announced today that the Waterfront Challenge will award $50,000
in grants in October 2011 to organizations to create sustainable
waterfront environmental improvements in their communities. Eight
grants from $4,500 to $20,000 will be awarded to groups in the
U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.
A five-judge panel of marine industry leaders who share a passion
for protecting our waters - with the help of boaters voting on
Facebook for their favorite projects among the applications -
will select 7 regional winners to be awarded grants of $4,500
each and a grand prize winner to be awarded a grant of $20,000.
Grant awards will be made at the Ft. Lauderdale International
Boat Show in October, 2011.
At a press briefing at the Miami International Boat Show today,
Elenor Ekman, Marketing Manager of Interlux said, “We are excited
about launching the Waterfront Challenge 2011. The health of our
bays, streams, lakes and oceans is vital to the future of
boating. The Waterfront Challenge is an opportunity for everyone
to make a difference.”
The judges for the 2011 Waterfront Challenge are: Thom Dammrich,
President of the National Marine Manufacturers Association; Fred
Daoust, General Manager, Interlux North America; John Kelly,
Chairman of the American Coatings Association Antifouling Working
Group and a member of the California State Lands Commission
Fouling Technical Advisory Group; Dan Pingaro, CEO of Sailors for
the Sea; and Susan Shingledecker, Director of Environmental
Programs for the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety & Clean
Water.

organizations have until August 31, 2011 to apply.
