World's Greatest Boat Show Revving Up for 2008
Miami Int'l Boat Show & Strictly Sail take place Feb. 14 - 18, 2008

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Dec. 26, 2007 – The Miami International Boat Show will return for its 67th run, Feb. 14-18, 2008, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center and Miamarina at Bayside.

The World's Greatest Boat Show brings together more than 2,200 exhibitors showcasing the latest powerboats, sail boats, engines and marine electronics and accessories for the 2008 boating season. Interactive seminars and demonstrations will help visitors learn about the boating lifestyle and enhance time spent out on the water.

"The Miami show is the premier event for boat-industry manufacturers and dealers to introduce new products and kick-start sales for the upcoming season," said Cathy Rick-Joule, vice president of southern shows with the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), which produces the Miami show. "Consumers from across the United States and as far away as Japan travel to Miami for this annual gathering of boating enthusiasts, where the best buys of the season can be found."

Kevin Murphy, show manager for Strictly Sail Miami, added, “Not only does the Miami show provide a boost to the boating industry, it also marks the busiest weekend in South Florida and brings to the area an economic impact of $817.8 million in gross sales and wages.”

Highlights of the 2008 Miami International Boat Show include:

Big Game Room Sport Fishing Expo

The number one reason consumers buy a boat is to enjoy the thrill of fishing. To help experienced boaters and novices learn about and hone their angling skills, the Miami International Boat Show brings together every imaginable product and resource into one central location at the Big Game Room Sport Fishing Expo.

Now in its 5th anniversary year, the Big Game Room provides visitors with endless opportunities to see and buy the latest in fishing gear; participate in interactive seminars led by fishing legends; gather information on fishing destinations, charters and tournaments; and simply share good times with fellow anglers.

The Big Game Room is located on the second floor of the Miami Beach Convention Center, above Hall B.

Discover Boating Center

The Discover Boating Center is a resource hub that provides show visitors with unbiased, brand-neutral advice about selecting, buying and maintaining a boat along with information about financing, popular fishing destinations and boating tips.

The Discover Boating Center is located in C Lobby of the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The Miami Herald Discover Boating Photo Contest

Show visitors are invited to submit their favorite boating lifestyle photographs and enter to win a 12-foot Adirondack Boat Pack, valued at $2,500, and a $500 Miami International Boat Show shopping spree in the 6th annual The Miami Herald Discover Boating Photo Contest. Ten honorable mentions will receive $50 Miami International Boat Show shopping sprees.

Photo entries can be submitted online at beginning today or visitors to the show may submit their photos at the Discover Boating Center, located in lobby C of the Miami Beach Convention Center. Winners will be announced after 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Boaters World’s “Buy a Boat and Win” Boat Show Sweepstakes

Boat buyers at the Miami show can win shopping certificates from Boaters World and be entered to win a tremendous cash grand prize in the 2nd annual “Buy a Boat and Win Boat Show Sweepstakes”. The first 200 new-boat buyers who bring their sales contracts to the show office, located in room C33 of the Miami Beach Convention Center, will receive $50 gift cards that they can use at Boaters World to accessorize their new purchases. All boat buyers will be entered to win one grand prize of boat supplies for life - or $1,000 cash per year for 20 years.

Sea Vee Boats “Fishing Trip of a Lifetime”

Angling enthusiasts can complete an online entry form at or visit booth 3114 at the show to enter to win a Sea Vee “Fishing Trip of a Lifetime” that includes lodging for two in Key West, Fla.; a full-day of fishing with ESPN celebrity angler Jose Wejebe aboard his 340 See Vee, “Spanish Fly;” as well as a $500 gift certificate. Entries must be received by February 18, and winners will be announced on February 19.

Invincible Boats “Fantastic Fishing Trip Contest"

Invincible Boats is offering show visitors an opportunity to win an exciting two-day/three-night fishing adventure for four in the Dry Tortugas with Capt. Rob Hammer aboard an Invincible 36-foot open fisherman. Winners of the Invincible Boats “Fantastic Fishing Trip Contest” will receive two full days of fishing and complimentary food and camping accommodations at the Dry Tortugas National Park, two hotel rooms in Key West, Fla., as well as $200 to be used for souvenirs or other travel expenses.

A winner will be selected prior to the show opening on February 14.

Maxum Get in the Game Boat Giveway

Miami show visitors can enter to win a grand-prize footbal-themed Maxum 2200 SR3 boat with Sirius Satellite radio and trailer package, courtesy of Maxum and GMC. In addition, visitors can Miami Dolphin running back, Ronnie Brown, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, and win prizes, including Sirius satellite radios and signed footballs and jerseys. The grand prize winner will be selected in early April.

Crocs Test Drive

Crocs, the popular footwear brand, will offer visitors the opportunity to "test drive" adn wear the comfortable shoes with slip-resistant, non-marking soles, during their time at the Miami show. At the end of the day, visitors may purchase the shoes, return them for an online coupon or choose a different style to purchase and take home with them.

Miss GEICO Appearance

Miss GEICO, the world's fastest offshore racing boat, will make its first showing in Miami and provide visitors with an opporutnity to see the legendary boat up close. Powered with the same turbine engines that flew missions in the first Gulf War, Miss GEICO is capable of reaching speeds of more than 185 MPH. The boat has set two world records and particpates on more than 15 races around the world in 2007. She won back-to-back world championships at the 2006 and 2007 Offshore Super Series and captured championships at Super Boat International and Offshore Performance Association.

Visitors can see Miss GEICO at slip 300D at the Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center.

Sunset Celebrations

Visitors to the Miami International Boat Show can celebrate the South Florida sunsets with food and drink specials from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, through Sunday, Feb. 17, along Convention Center Drive at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Elite Fleet VIP Tickets

Visitors who purchase Elite Fleet VIP tickets to the Miami International Boat Show gain entry to the show’s three locations as well as the Elite Fleet Club Lounge at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, which is adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center. Here Elite Fleet VIPs can relax in a lounge setting and receive two complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Allstate Safety Weekend

Children 12 and under will receive free life jackets compliments of Allstate Boat Insurance when they visit Allstate at booth 1760 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, on Saturday, Feb. 16, and Sunday, Feb. 17.

Kids Play Area

At the Kids Play Area at the Miami International Boat Show little tykes can spend time away from the show floor to bounce, climb and run among the beauty of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden.

Discover Sailing Center

Visitors of all ages can experience the thrill of sailing under the supervision of an experienced sailor at the Discover Sailing Center, located on a floating dock between Piers A and B at Miamarina. These free half-hour lessons introduce those unaccustomed to the sailing experience to the pleasure and joys of the sport while remaining in a controlled environment.

Sailing Seminar Series

Visitors can hone their skills and receive tips for enhancing their sailing experiences through a daily series of free seminars led by renowned experts.

Kids Aboard Boat Building Program

Children ages six and older can participate in free boat building workshops from noon to 6 p.m., Friday through Monday. Under the supervision of bilingual, U.S.-certified instructors, children will create two 10-foot sailing yachts, including a glass-bottom boat, that will be launched into Biscayne Bay on Monday, Feb. 18.

South African Pavilion Multi-Hull Lagoon

The South African Boatbuilders Business Council and the South African Consulate General return to Miami for the third year, bringing nearly 10 world-class sailing vessels, marine accessories and tourist information from the Cape.
