St. Petersburg Boat Show and Strictly Sail Features Hundreds of Power and Sail Boats

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (Nov. 19, 2008) -- The St. Petersburg Boat Show & Strictly Sail,™ the Gulf Coast’s new super show running from Dec. 4-7, is expected to attract over 20,000 people to a four-day boating festival that is the ultimate in one-stop shopping with best-value deals and incentives offered on a large selection of both power and sailboats.

Boater’s World is presenting The St. Petersburg Boat Show & Strictly Sail sponsored by Mercedes Benz and co-sponsored by Marina Pez Vela at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts Mahaffey Theater Yacht Basin and Albert Whitted Park. With hundreds of power boats and 50 sailboats, this show gives guests the chance to meet with dealers and experts and experience firsthand the very best in sailing and boating in an expanded waterfront area.

“Nowhere else on the Gulf Coast offers sailors and boaters the opportunity to climb aboard hundreds of new power boats and sail boats in the water and on land in a stunning waterfront location,” said Dane Graziano, Show Management senior vice president and chief operating officer. “We encourage you to bring the family and make a fun, affordable day of it—enjoy terrific fishing clinics, entertaining seminars, live music, and sailing cruises as part of your total boat show experience.”

Show-goers will enjoy 70 stand-out educational and entertaining seminars organized by Sail America that cover all facets of the boating lifestyle, from the magic of embarking on dramatic ocean voyages to the must-have knowledge of staying safe and healthy at sea. In addition, a newly expanded and air-conditioned Accessories Tent with 275 booths offers everything for the boating lifestyle including: gear, accessories, nautical apparel, jewelry, equipment, electronics, engines, plus marine charters, services and travel opportunities. This year, check out the “green” accessories, such as Green Ocean™’s environmentally responsible cleaning solutions and Ella Vickers Recycled Sailcloth Collection of nautical-style hand and travel bags fashioned from yacht sails from around the world.

Power It Up

For power boaters, the show features hundreds of power boats, including family cruisers, luxury yachts, high-performance wakeboard boats, affordable fishing boats, sports boats, deck boats, bowriders, plus personal watercraft.

Galati Yacht Sales, with 10 Gulf Coast locations, is bringing its distinctive line-up of knockout luxury yachts, fishing cruisers and sports coupes to the show, including the:

· 65 Marquis,™ the queen of the fleet, a combination of elegant Italian design and high-quality American craftsmanship, with a spacious bridge and wrap-around helm station.

· 520 Marquis™ Sport Coupe-this cruiser features Volvo Penta’s innovative IPS system that delivers a thrilling high-performance ride.

· 58 Tiara Sovern,™ the luxurious flagship and the largest yacht manufactured by Tiara, with a wide-open upper level salon and well-planned tri-level floor plan.

· 39 Tiara™ Open, features versatile features, such as aft-facing mezzanine seating that resonate with anglers, yet appeal to cruisers.

MarineMax, the world’s largest marine retailer, “will be displaying boats from 17-60 feet, including spectacular Sea Rays®, unsinkable Boston Whalers,™ even the luxurious Hatteras® product,” said Noelle Norvell, MarineMax general manager. “Come visit the MarineMax display where you can experience living the boating dream!”

The show’s power side include a debut by the show‘s automotive sponsor, Mercedes-Benz, to unveil the all-new 2010 GLK-Class, coming to Tampa Bay dealerships in January. As the first five-passenger premium compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz, the GLK350’s edgy new design and fuel efficiency is expected to generate great interest among enthusiasts in the Tampa Bay market.

The Strictly Sail Side

On the sailing side, the show includes debuts from several of the industry’s most-respected names, including Hunter Marine, Catalina Yachts, Island Packet, Beneteau, Jeanneau America, to name just a few.

New Hunter Marine models docked on display will include the Hunter 50CC, the brand new 50 Center Cockpit that is a "breakthrough" boat that defines a safe, comfortable and exceptionally easy-to-sail center cockpit cruiser, which allows for short-handed applications. Other in-water models are the Hunter 45 DS (a Cruising World Boat of the Year nominee), the Hunter 49, the Hunter 41DS, and the Hunter 36 and Hunter 33.

On land, Hunter is also bringing its buzzworthy new 27-ft power sailor called theEDGE, a Cruising World Boat of the Year nominee. Trailerable, beachable and user-friendly, theEDGE is at home sailing the high seas or for wakeboarding and tubing. Plus, the Hunter 216, Hunter 170 and Hunter 146 are part of the Hunter display on land.

Catalina Yachts is displaying the Catalina 375, introduced this year and another Cruising World Boat of the Year nominee. Catalina is now introducing an optional interior design featuring a comfortable L-shaped settee and pedestal table that converts to a wide berth. Other Catalina Yachts on display are the Catalina 440, 350 MKII, 320 MKII, 309, 250 MKII and 22 Sport.

Catalina Yachts is also offering to shuttle show-goers to its nearby factory in Largo for tours to learn first-hand about the art and science of building a Catalina Yachts. After taking the tour, show-goers will then be shuttled back to the show.

Island Packet will have their full line on display at the show: the brand-new Island Packet 460, another Cruising World Boat of the Year nominee, plus the Island Packet 465, Island Packet 485 and the SP Cruiser. The new Island Packet 460 has a two-cabin, aft cockpit design by Bob Johnson that incorporates all the signature elements that have won the company their reputation as America's Cruising Yacht Leader.™

For catamaran enthusiasts, Gemini and Finish Line will be among the catamaran exhibitors displaying their top models at the show. Performance Cruising is displaying the Gemini 105Mc, the popular live-aboard catamaran with its innovative sail plan, hull shape and centerboards.

Family Fun and Entertainment

The St. Petersburg Boat Show and Strictly Sail is packed with opportunities for families and friends to have fun together.

Families should arrive early on Sat. Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7, to register their kids for the popular “Hook The Future” fishing clinics for the kids led by Capt. Don Digman, who will teach kids including casting a rod and reel, cast net throwing, select tackle and lures, knot tying and fishing ethics. Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for clinics at noon and 2 p.m. Kids from ages of 4-16, who take part in fishing clinics will also enjoy free admission when accompanied by a paid parent or guardian. They’ll also take home rod, reel and tackle giveaways, while supplies last.

Families and friends can experience the thrill of sailing with half-hour Discover Sailing cruises on Hunter Yachts with an expert skipper in this national introduction-to-sailing program.

Get your Saturday night rocking with the Latitudes and Attitudes Ninth Annual St. Pete Cruiser’s Party on Dec. 6-This fun-loving crew, led by the tropical rock Eric Stone Band will let the good times roll at this pizza-and-beer party that starts at 7 p.m. and is included in Saturday’s admission price. Enjoy a chance to win a week-long Sunsail charter, a Mason anchor or a Spectra Watermaker,™ valued at $10,000, in raffles that benefit the refitting of the Charles W.
